Dialogue no 3
A Dialogue between two peopele, not knowing each other
On Sunday afternoon a person calls one of the emergency
operatorsby dialling 112, to get a piece of advice, when not feeling well.
The operator recommends a visit at the hospitals’ emergency room,
the so called the E.R., for consulting, where the following dialogue
takes place between a doctor and his patient:
The patient: “Good afternoon! I’m glad you’re taking your
time to look at me, because I don’t feel very well.
I’ve no idea what’s the matter with me."
The doctor: “Good afternoon! As a matter of fact I’ve finished
off the meeting with the former patient, which
enables me to visit you within soon. Now, tell me,
what's wrong with you?”
The patient:“Yesterday, I went to the West Coast together with
boyfriend. We just intended to go to the South end
of the Koster Island and back during the day, as to
I suddenly began to feel ill.”
The doctor: “That sounds to be a very nice trip, but what
happened?”The patient: “Already, in the morning,
when starting the trip by car to Strömstad I felt very
frozen and had got head-ache. Arriving in Strömstad
we took the ferry to the South end of the Koster Island.
It was a hot and sunny day. Even on board at the ferry
I felt frozen, which I thought depended on the wind blowing.
I love to take a swim in the salt water at the West Coast
even if there are some jelly-fishes, so the first thing I did
entering the beach was to go for a swim. In the cold
salted water I was seized by cramp, what made me
interrupt swimming around. The water was cold, which
it usually is at the South end of the Koster Island. We
had brought some sandwiches and a vacuum jug with
hot coffee. As I started to feel sick, I didn't participate
the picnic. It was a wonderful sunny day and I went for
another swim. At about four o’clock in the afternoon,
we took the ferry back to Strömstad, where we had the car
at a parking lot. At the ferry my body started to freeze still
more. I was almost shaking. As soon as the ferry arrived in
Strömstad we started the journey back to Karlstad. The
driver had to put on the heat in the car cabin, as I was
shivering so much. I felt like having high fever. However,
there had arisen another problem, because next day at
eleven o’clock a.m. I was supposed to participate in a golf
competition at Kils’ Golf Court. I felt pity for my friend
should’ve to sustain playing golf, because of me not
feeling well. Anyway, I recommended him to go."
"Awaking this morning I still had got fever, more than +40
degrees, why I immediately had a couple of antipyretics.
When my friend went back this afternoon, I still had very
high fever, despite the antipyretics. Then, I started to feel
somewhat anxious about the condition. That’s why I called
one of the emergency operators for a piece of advice. The
nurse wanted me to visit the E.R., the Emergency Room at
the hospital and here I’m. Look, I’ve also got a discoloured
spot on my left leg."
The doctor: “For your information, I’ve got the result of the blood test,
taken by the nurse, which indicates some sort of infection,
but there is a problem. We don’t know what kind of infection
it is. You see, working at the hospital’s E.R. is very alike
working as Sherlock Holmes, being a detective. Would you
please tell me what you’ve been up to these days before
going to Strömstad?”
The patient: “Yes of course, on Thursday evening my friend and I went
to Grums’ Old Homestead Museum, where they had an
entertainment in a barn. You see, the father of a school-
mate of mine has given the Homestead Museum to the
church and the community. It’s driven as a non-profit-
making association and I was a member of the board.
Afterwards, when people went for coffee-time that evening,
I was assisting bringing chairs out of the barn. It was dark
and dirty inside the barn. On Friday morning I went as usual
to work.”
The doctor: “Would you please take off your trousers, enabling me to have
a look at the discoloured spot on your left leg! Have you got
some insect-bite on your body?”
The patient: “No, not that I’m aware of. Before going to the hospitals’ E.R.
I carefully checked the body to eliminate tick-bites, but I
couldn’t find any.”
The doctor: “Let me examine your body! Please raise your left leg another
time! Ah, there it is! Here on you left leg you’ve got a red
mark. I’ll take a test and send it away to the laboratory in
Sundsvall for an analysis. Now, I’ve got a slight idea, what
it might be, but I’ll wait for an answer of the analysis before
making any diagnosis. You see, it’s no good to give you
penicillin, not knowing exactly, what kind of penicillin is
going to work in your case. Now, we’ll have to wait a day
or two, before we’ve got the answer of the analysis. Until
then, I’ll keep you at the hospital and prescribe some
antipyretics and discharge fluid. I just want you to be patient!”
Dear readers, I’d like you to guess and answer the five questions below:
No 1: “Who are the actors in this dialogue?”
No 2: “What’s the reason, why this person contacts the emergency operator?”
No 3: “What occurred to this person before contacting the E.R.?”
No 4: “How did it happened?"
No 5: "When did it happended?"

A Visit at the Sibyl’s Desk
Last week I went on vacation to Strömstad, which is a
small townon the Swedish West Coast. Sometimes going
on holiday I use tolook for activities and so I did last
Saturday, as there was noweather for the beach. Approaching
Strömstad by car, I’d recognizedan advertising poster about a
Medical Health Fair taking place onJuly 5 and 6, 2008, at 10:30
a.m. and 18:00 p.m. It seemed excitingvisiting the fair. I parked
the car on the parking lot just outsidethe entrance of the upper
secondary school, where it was taking place. At the entrance I
asked the woman: “How much is it?” She answered:“The entry
is Swedish Crowns 100,-. I paid for the entrance andstepped inside
the premises.I was lucky visiting the fair on Saturday, because
there was arunning race in the city core, which was the reason,
why there wasn’tso many people attending the fair. It was very
hot inside the premises, but the atmosphere was calm. I was very
interested in what they hadto offer, so I went around somewhat
amused and curious having a lookand there she was. I recognized
the woman’s face at once. The womanwas sitting in front of a desk
offering her services, telling you about yourfuture and back-ground.
Attending the Medical Health Fair last yearI’d visited her. Her name
is Tina Taylor a professional medium. Whatstory was she going to tell
me this time, the same or another one? Thesibyl glanced at me as if
she recognized me. There was a great manyNorwegian people queuing
up in front of her desk, eagerly to hear herstory-telling. I’d to put my
name on a list to stipulate visiting-time.At last it showed to be my turn.
I paid Swedish Crowns 100, - for aten minute visit. During my visit at
Tina’s desk, the sibyl’s desk, thefollowing dialogue was held:
The sibyl: “Instinctively, I think I know you. Have you beenvisiting
me before?
”I: “Yes, as a matter of fact I’ve and now I’m curiousabout what
story you’re going to tell me this time.
"The sibyl: “How nice seeing you again. Would you please hold outyour
hands and put them into mine. I'll tell you more about your
future as well as back-groung."At the same time she closes
her eyes being quite fora long time before starting to speak
again.“As you see, I’ve got some Tarok-cards at the desk in
front of me. Now I’d like you to point out two ofthem.”
I: “Yes, I choose the Tarok-card to the extreme leftand the
other one to the extreme right.
The sibyl: “Historically, the Tarok-cards tell me, that in 1646 you were
a woman clergyman at the profession, who sentenced a lot of
people to death for witchcraft. People were burnt at the stake,
even if there just wasa mere trifle, as for example a beautiful
girl having asmall birth-mark at her left hip, which was considered
as a symbol for being a witch. At that time people, was condemned
even if being innocent. The with-trial was often being started by
envying and questioning people. Then it was fulfilled by the priest
condemning the poor creatures to death for witchery."
“Further, at the sixteenth century you entered amonastery.
Taking the vows you executed some reallygood needlework, when
giving aid to refugees. You did a nice job very alike Mother Theresa’s
and was well-known for it.”
“In the end of the seventeenth century you wereworking as a school-
teacher helping children to readand write. As a teacher you were
very popular among the children, who loved you very much."
I: “I see, that according to my back-ground I’ve been upto a great deal
of different thrilling roles. I find it an awkward situation during the
witchery having been such a cruel person. You see, I like people
very much, being an emotional person. It was a sad story you’re
telling me. However, at that time it was different as people weren’t
as informed as they are today.”
The sibyl:“No, you’re quite right. At that time, there was a lotof cruelty.
How is your situation today? I see, that you’ve got a lot of people
around you at work. What are you doing at work? Are you married?”
I: “I’m permanently employed at Telia handling claims. I’m neither
married or living together with somebody, but I’ve got a friend.”
The sibyl: “Yes, the cards tell me, that you’re living separately, but within
soon he’ll ask you to marry him. At workyou’ve got contact with
a lot of people helping them with their problems. At Telia you’re
working very hard climbing up the stairs. Also, I see, that you’re
under stress at work. That’s why I’d like you to visit thehealer’s
desk. Carl-Arne Nilsson, at the neighbour’s desk, is a healer holding
a diploma. He’ll give you a piece of good advice getting rid of stress.”
I: “Thanks for holding your time. Is it O.K. if I continue visiting
Carl-Arne’s, the healer’s desk?”
The sibyl: “Thank you and hoping to see you next year!”
I: “Good buy!”
The healer:“Hello, how are you?”
I: “I’m fine thank you, but sometimes I’m feeling a little under
stress.”
The healer:“Yes, I feel you’re in a state under strain. I’ll helpyou get rid of it.”
I: “That’s fine!”
The healer:“Now I’d like you to close your eyes and just relaxfor some minutes.
I’m going to put my hands on yourshoulders enabling you to feel
the heat streaming out of my hands. As you’ve got a very busy job,
I’dlike you to take at least ten minutes of your time eachday for
meditation. It will help you not being over-strained at work.”
I: “I wonder how do I do meditating in a correct way to achieve
utmost relax?”
The healer:“You switch off the light, lightening a candle, puttingon soft music,
while thinking about nothing at all for about ten minutes per day.
Just try to empty your mind completely.”
I: “Thanks for instructing me how to handle and solve the stress
problem.”
The healer: “I’m now going to give you a hug wishing you goodluck with
the meditation.”
I: “How much for your consulting time?”
The healer: “Swedish Crowns 100, - will do.”
I: “Thanks for keeping your time.”
The healer: “Good bye, hoping to see you next summer.”
I: “Good bye
